Painted with Monica Johnson at Thunderbird Cove next to the Lodge in Nevada today. The weather was very unsettled with snow flurries, wind and occasional sunshine. We hiked down to the beach which seemed quick till we had to come back up the hill. Fun as always painting with a friend in plein air! Oil on linen 16″ X 12″.
The beautiful pink flowering plum tree set against the baby blue of Joy’s house was too hard to resist in our South Lake Tahoe, Al Tahoe neighborhood. It was a tough commute going outside our fence. Spring is just starting here as evidenced by a beautiful warm day yesterday and snow today. Oil on linen 12″ X 16″.
The color of these bearded iris was very different, with soft pink and red-purple hues. These were the only iris in my garden this year. They are with a cactus and succulents transplanted in the back yard a few years back which are getting pretty big. Deer love succulents which I found out as they had come up two flights of stairs to the front door to have a bite.
Tahoe Art League paints Iris Gardens near Placerville on May 10th, so that may be the last opportunity to paint these lovely flowers this spring. I am so fortunate to get two springs – one in the Bay Area and the other in the mountains!
It was a gorgeous warm day yesterday at the Marin Headlands, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area looking across to San Francisco. This was a scene well overdue to be painted, as I have lived here since 1981! Got to speak with people from France, Australia, Philippines and locals at this heavily visited location that was saved in the 1960’s for all to enjoy. I am so lucky to live in this paradise! 12″ X 16″ Oil on linen.
I was lucky enough to have my very nice neighbors present me with a bouquet of the lovely iris I painted in their garden the day before. Loving the new linen panels – 16″ X 12″ oil on linen.
My neighbor had these lovely iris growing in her garden. Went over early this morning before the heat of the day came full on. 12″ X 16″ oil on linen.
After painting at the East Fork Carson River last week, getting inspired and completing a small study I went big in the studio. 24″x48″ Oil on canvas.
